Degree Programme
The Mary Walsh Institute has worked with academic partners to externalise SACCS practice by developing a programme of higher education. We are very proud of our range of degree programmes up to MA level, and are now thrilled to be able to extend the opportunity for outside organisations to undertake these courses.
The ground breaking Foundation Degree in Therapeutic Childcare (FdA) is accredited by the University of Wales and delivered in partnership by MWI and Glyndŵr University (formerly NEWI). This is a 2 year part-time course, combining work-based learning and academic study delivered in face to face lectures and online. Practice theories are studied and various learning styles are used.
We have also developed, with Glyndwr and the University of Wales, a BA (Hons) in Therapeutic Child Care – the next progression level in this programme. This two year part-time top-up to the FdA will consolidate and expand students’ practice theory and research methodology knowledge.
Our MA in Therapeutic Childcare (Play Therapy/Life Story Therapy) is delivered in partnership with Liverpool Hope University. This programme offers students the skills and knowledge to work therapeutically with children utilising advanced approaches in Life Story Therapy and Play Therapy interventions. Students will have the opportunity to explore a variety of therapeutic approaches including the use of music, art, drama, play and movement as well as life story, story stems and therapeutic stories.
